Idwala Industrial Holdings, with interests in lime, carbonates, magnetite and other industrial minerals in various locations, has an opportunity for a Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Officer to be based at the Carbonates operation in Port Shepstone, reporting directly to the Divisional Health & Safety Manager
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Prevent injuries, ill health and harm to the environment
- Rectification of conditions and behaviours which lead to injuries, ill health and environmental harm
- SHE legal and ISO system compliance e.g., ISO 14001, 45001 and SHE legal permits
- Maintenance of appointments and authorizations
- Execute and report on SHE drills
- Contractor audits for compliance and contractor control
- Conduct audits and inspections to verify adherence to SHE operating standards/COPs
- Prepare and submit required SHE reports and documentation to regulatory authorities and to management
- Implement environmental monitoring programs for air, water, soil, noise, and biodiversity impacts
- Comply with OHS monitoring programs
- Monitor pollutants levels and other indicators to identify any deviations from acceptable limits
- Coordinate efforts for rehabilitating mining sites
- Support the implementation of biodiversity conservation and offset programs
- Investigate SHE incidents and implement corrective actions
- Develop SHE awareness programs to ensure all staff understand the importance of SHE compliance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualification NQF 6 Environmental/Safety Management or related
- Auditing and training skills for SHE requirements
- Understanding of Occupational Hygiene monitoring
- Fully computer literate i.e., MS Office
- Driver’s licence
- 5+ years’ experience with SHEQ requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a strong ability to escalate matters immediately to
management - Excellent communication skills for interacting with regulatory bodies, internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with demonstrable organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency with SHEQ systems (ISO 14001 and 45001)
- Must be deemed medically fit in terms of MHSA 29 of 1996
