Position: Environmental Education Intern

Position Type: Full time; fixed-term contract
Salary: R8 000.00 basic per month
Location: Zeekoevlei and Bokbaai Environmental Education Centres (on-site)
Qualification: A 3-year tertiary Marine Biology or Marine Science qualification with a PGCE or teaching experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the delivery of engaging environmental education lessons and outdoor learning activities.
- Support the setup and preparation of teaching materials and resources.
- Help facilitate learner engagement during camps, school visits, and community programmes.
- Contribute to the care and maintenance of education resources and facilities.
- Provide support during environmental awareness events, exhibitions, and outreach days.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation by helping collect feedback and attendance records.
- Assist with capturing photos and content for communication and reporting purposes
- Gain exposure to lesson planning, group facilitation, and environmental interpretation under the mentorship of experienced educators.
- Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to a positive team environment.
Job Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Competencies:
- A recently completed 3-year tertiary Marine Biology/Marine Science qualification
- Valid clearance certificate (clear criminal history)

- Nature Connect is seeking an Environmental Education Intern to support the
- Environmental Education team in delivering and preparing educational activities that connect learners to nature, while gaining hands-on experience in environmental education delivery, programme logistics, and resource management.
- Code 08 driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience.
- Fluency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
- Outlook)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage administrative tasks
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and after hours
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or prior teaching experience
- Proficiency in Afrikaans
- Familiarity with the South African education system
- Experience in professional writing for reports and communications
- Strong relationship-building skills and a client-focused approach
