POSITION: Electrician
JOB GRADING: C-Lower
DEPARTMENT: Engineering – Fixed Plant
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine

The On-Reef Infrastructure Electrician is accountable for the underground electrical infrastructure construction, installations and maintenance. The role also requires delivery on scheduled and unscheduled tasks assigned, to
ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12/N3 or equivalent
  • Electrical trade certificate with Medium Voltage certification
  • Have 5 years’ experience as an electrician within an underground mechanised mining environment with
    a proven track record on electrical reticulation, cable joints, electrical protection and impact breakers
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical
    examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test,
    and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
  • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience on fault finding, diagnosis and maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of equipment
  • Proven track record of production achievements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all
    planning and execution of maintenance activities
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company
    standards
  • Actively collaborate with peer groups to promote and develop effective teamwork
