The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking dedicated and qualified individuals to fill various General Assistant positions at its Mpumalanga facilities, including roles in cleaning, maintenance, electrical and welding, and carpentry, plumbing, plastering, and painting. These positions, based in Mbombela and the Infrastructure Branch Training Centre (Construction East), offer an opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and operational efficiency of critical water and sanitation infrastructure. REQUIREMENTS: ABET. Basic numeracy and Literacy. Good interpersonal and communications skills, must be able to handle confidential information. Experience and knowledge of various cleaning consumables and operation of cleaning equipment. Knowledge of health and safety requirements and understanding of applying or using chemicals correctly.

DUTIES: Perform daily cleaning tasks – routine in the offices, kitchens and boardrooms (clean, dust, sweep, mop, scrub and polish floors). Collecting and removing of office waste, keeping and maintaining of cleaning equipment and wash of walls and windows when required, operate vacuum cleaners and other machinery, wash kitchen items, follow cleaning control protocols and procedures, ablution facilities. Exercise control over cleaning materials in the absence of the Supervisor. Prepare and serve refreshments during meetings and compliance with all related duties that may be determined by the supervisor.

General Assistants (Cleaners) X2
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
SALARY: R138 486 per annum (Level 2)
CENTRE: Infrastructure Branch Training Centre (Construction East) Standard Contract

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be in possession of Grade 10 plus two (02) years relevant experience or eight (08) years relevant experience. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Ability to lift and move moderate weight objects. Knowledge of health and safety requirements. Understanding of basic record keeping. Basic understanding of applying safety rules. Ability to work independently. The work environment requires standing walking, bending and lifting for extended period. Good Communication and Interpersonal skills.

DUTIES: The Incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene in the training centre. Ensure floors, equipment, offices, facilities, boardrooms, and common areas remain clean and safe for workers and guests. Organise and arrange refreshments for training, workshops, and meetings at the centre. Operate cleaning equipment and machines, washing dishes. Clean and sanitise restrooms, breakrooms and common areas. Remove trash and recyclable materials from the premises. Refill supplies like paper towels, soap and sanitisers. Dust shelves, equipment and workstations. Report any maintenance or safety hazards to the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be in possession of Grade 10 or equivalent qualification plus two (2) years relevant experience. Knowledge of basic maintenance. Ability to work under pressure. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of cleaning equipment’s to be used. Knowledge of health and safety requirements. Good Communication and Interpersonal skills.

DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for grass cutting and cleaning of surroundings for the training centre, operate cleaning equipment and machines, cleaning external yard, caring for outdoor spaces, mowing the lawn, remove weeds and gardens refuse. Install and maintain landscapes, prune trees or shrubs. Apply fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides. Litter pick and empty bins when required and perfume routine maintenance tasks.

General Assistants (Electrical and Welding)
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
SALARY: R163 680 per annum (Level 2)
CENTRE: Infrastructure Branch Training Centre (Construction East) Project Based Contract

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be in possession of Grade 10 or equivalent, plus two (2) years relevant experience relevant. Certificate will be added as an advantage. Must be able to coordinate and collaborate with other workers on site. Team player. Must have physical stamina and strength for the construction environment. Must be willing to work after hours when required.

DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment. Electrical wiring and installations Identify electrical problems. Inspecting electrical component. Arc welding and brazing. Assisting with electrical and welding issue at the training centre, assisting with general work including maintaining the facility.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be in possession of Grade 10 or equivalent qualification plus two (2) years relevant experience. Knowledge of basic maintenance. Ability to work under pressure. Good Communication and Interpersonal skills.

DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for carpentry work, plumbing, plastering and painting. Operate handheld electrical tools. Plumber – Install and repair pipes. Cut and fit pipes. Maintain and repair water systems. Plaster – Mixing plaster to the desired consistency. Cure freshly plastered surfaces. Paint – Create decorative textures in finishing coats. Prepare wall and ceiling layouts. Prepare painting surfaces, Mixing and applying paints. Cleaning surfaces before laying paint. Repair cracks and holes.
