Department of Correctional Services: Internship Programme 2026/2028

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for the Public Service Graduate Internship Programme for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 financial years. The programme is aimed at providing graduates with an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience and develop skills relevant to their qualifications within the public service sector.

The internship programme offers placements across a variety of fields, including Built Environment, Legal Studies, Finance, Psychology, Social Work, Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Theology, Correctional Service Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Agriculture, Kitchen and Bakery, Artisans, and Clothing and Textile. Interns will be placed at various DCS offices, training colleges, and regional centres across South Africa.

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R8,174.75 for the duration of the programme. The internship is designed to provide valuable hands-on experience, professional development opportunities, and exposure to government operations, helping graduates strengthen their skills and improve their future employment prospects.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess a relevant National Diploma, Degree, Trade Certificate, or an equivalent qualification in the field for which they are applying. The qualification must be obtained from a recognised institution and aligned with the requirements of the specific internship position.

Qualification requirements differ depending on the internship field and placement location. Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the requirements for their preferred position to ensure they meet the minimum eligibility criteria before submitting an application.

Important Notes

Applications must be submitted on the completed Z83 Application Form, obtainable from any Public Service Department. A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) must accompany the application. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications and supporting documents, not older than six months, on or before the interview date.

Applicants must submit a separate and complete application for each position applied for and ensure that the correct reference number is used. All costs associated with the application process will be for the applicant’s own account. Correspondence will only be conducted with shortlisted candidates. If no feedback is received within three months after the closing date, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.

Appointments will be provisional pending successful security clearance outcomes. Fingerprints may be taken on the day of the interview.
