The Gauteng Department of Health invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Driver within the Logistics Directorate at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. This opportunity is open to individuals who meet the minimum requirements, including Grade 12 and possession of a valid driver’s licence with a valid PDP. The post offers a competitive annual salary package of R193 359.00 per annum, plus benefits, and provides an opportunity to work within a critical healthcare environment supporting patient care and hospital operations.

The successful candidates will be responsible for transporting patients and staff, maintaining vehicles in a roadworthy condition, completing transport documentation, and supporting emergency and theatre-related transport needs. Requirements
  • Grade 12.
  • No experience required.
  • Be in possession of a valid driver’s licence with a valid PDP at own expense.
  • Knowledge and understanding of customer care (Batho Pele Principles and six Ministerial Priorities of Health).
  • Good communication skills with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be prepared to work shifts and work under pressure.
  • Be prepared to undergo driver’s pre-testing.
  • The following will be an added advantage: 2–5 years’ experience as a driver.
Duties
  • Transport patients and staff members to and from different destinations as prescribed by the Transport Manager.
  • Proper maintenance of vehicles by ensuring that vehicles are in roadworthy condition.
  • Safekeeping of transport documents by ensuring that log sheets and petrol slips are recorded after each trip and reporting any damages to the Supervisor.
  • Transporting theatre staff and hospital staff members involved in emergency cases.
  • Cleaning of vehicles after use and sanitising of vehicle interiors.

NB: Where a driver’s licence is mandatory, an exception will be granted for persons with disabilities. All foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from SAQA.
