
The KwaZulu-Natal Museum invites applications from qualifying graduates for participation in a 12-month internship programme during the 2026/2027 financial year. This initiative provides valuable work experience in a professional environment, supporting career development while contributing to the Museum’s mission of education, preservation, and public engagement.
Applicants must be unemployed graduates, South African citizens, and should not have participated in any internship programme previously. The programme offers a stipend of R5 000 per month across several disciplines.
Available Internship Positions
Tour Guide (x4)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: National Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Tourism or related field.
- Duties:
- Guide visitors through galleries.
- Monitor security in public spaces.
- Provide information about exhibitions to schools and the public.
- Support the Education Department with related tasks.
Environmental Management (x1)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Applied Environmental Science or related field.
- Duties:
- Conduct environmental education programmes.
- Assist in planning educational initiatives.
- Participate in outreach programmes.
- Support the Education Department with related responsibilities.
Sales and Marketing (x1)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: National Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Marketing or related field. Strong communication skills, computer literacy, and active engagement on social platforms are essential.
- Duties:
- Conduct market research and prepare analysis reports.
- Assist with planning and hosting marketing events.
- Contribute ideas for promotional strategies.
- Support front desk operations and administrative tasks.
Digital Artist (x1)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Digital Arts or related field.
- Duties:
- Assist with conservation cleaning and technical duties.
- Engage in graphic design, fine art, 3D design, model making, and photography.
- Capture and edit video content.
- Create interactive digital content.
- Support exhibition-related activities and general maintenance.
Human Resources (x1)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: National Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Management or related field. Knowledge of Microsoft packages and HR legislation is required.
- Duties:
- Update employee records.
- Capture, screen, and schedule interviews.
- Support employee development and wellness programmes.
- Assist with performance management.
- Provide support to the HR Officer and handle ad hoc tasks.
Library (x1)
- Stipend: R5 000 per month
- Requirements: National Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Studies or related field.
- Duties:
- Support collections development and accessioning of new items.
- Catalogue books and preserve collections.
- Index materials and provide user training.
- Engage stakeholders and assist with library functions.
