This role is essential in supporting daily operations through assistance to artisans and performing basic maintenance tasks within office facilities and remote observation sites. The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring that meteorological infrastructure and facilities are maintained to a high standard.

The position requires performing a range of duties including installation and inspection of observation sites, maintenance of terrain and structures, cleaning of office facilities, monitoring of assets, fleet-related support, and stock control. Participation in training, mentoring initiatives, and outreach activities such as exhibitions and school visits will also form part of the responsibilities. Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements is a key expectation in this role.

Job Summary

The General Worker will be responsible for assisting artisans and performing basic maintenance tasks within the office and at observation sites.

Key Performance Areas
  • Assist with the installation and inspection of remote observation sites.
  • Repair structures housing meteorological instruments, including masts, stands, and stays.
  • Perform terrain maintenance such as weeding, mowing grass, and removing litter and waste.
  • Clean indoor weather office facilities, including restrooms, where required.
  • Carry out rudimentary building maintenance tasks.
  • Review applicable Total Quality Management (TQM) processes.
  • Monitor and report on the use of assets and key infrastructure (Asset Verification).
  • Assist with fleet management.
  • Control and monitor stock levels required for maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Attend training activities as instructed.
  • Share knowledge and skills with stakeholders to promote a learning organization culture.
  • Participate in mentoring initiatives and skills development opportunities.
  • Support staff during exhibitions, presentations, corporate events, workshops, conventions, and expos.
