Job Purpose

The role of General Worker entails providing reliable support to TRIM-RNC Construction teams during maintenance and construction activities. The position focuses on executing general worker duties to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently, contributing to the smooth operation of construction and maintenance projects at the Port of Richards Bay.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies Required

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum Qualification: Grade 9 or 6 months of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Physical Fitness: Must undergo a medical examination and be declared fit for duty.
  • Safety Awareness: Be alert and demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety protocols.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Adaptability: Capable of working under adverse weather conditions.
  • Availability: Willing to work extended hours on short notice and relocate or work outside the designated depot if required.
  • Work Environment: Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in noisy environments.
  • Tool Usage: Ability to use non-mechanized hand tools in a construction environment.
  • Health and Safety Consciousness: Prioritize safety in all tasks and activities.
Key Accountabilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • Executing all tasks as directed by the Supervisor or Team Leader.
  • Maintaining punctuality and demonstrating sober habits at all times.
  • Handling, loading, and offloading materials as required.
  • Performing site cleaning duties, including removing weeds, stacking materials, sweeping floors, and disposing of excess or rubble materials.
  • Using non-mechanized hand tools effectively in the construction environment.
  • Cleaning and maintaining tools to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Providing proof of residential address with the application.
  • Submitting certified copies of ID(s) and DBS/POPI report with the application.
