The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of General Worker within the Chief Directorate: District Coordination. The role is designed for individuals who are hardworking, physically fit, and capable of performing manual and maintenance duties at museum or heritage sites. Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, conducting basic repairs, performing landscaping tasks, and ensuring the upkeep of departmental facilities. Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 1 or 2 (Grade 8 or 9) / AET/ABET Level 2 Certificate from a recognized institution.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work under pressure and in outdoor environments.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance, cleaning, paving, bush clearing, firebreak creation, and soil erosion control.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Perform maintenance duties at museums or heritage sites.
  • Clean and maintain museum structures and surroundings.
  • Collect and use raw materials for restoration and renovation of facilities.
  • Maintain museum fencing, perform landscaping, and control soil erosion.
  • Conduct de-bushing, weed clearing, and create firebreaks.
  • Handle and maintain tools and equipment responsibly.

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 1 or 2 (Grade 8 or 9) / AET/ABET Level 2 Certificate from a recognized institution.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to operate basic equipment.
  • Basic literacy and good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cleaning, gardening, and health and safety procedures.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Load and offload furniture, equipment, and goods.
  • Clean and maintain both interior and exterior of the building.
  • Distribute and collect documents, ensuring proper record keeping.
  • Operate basic machines such as vacuum cleaners and photocopiers.
