
The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Data Capturer positions to support the implementation of the Tuberculosis Programme in supported health facilities and community settings. The successful candidates will be responsible for capturing, verifying, and reporting programme data, ensuring data accuracy and timely submissions, and supporting monitoring and evaluation processes in line with programme requirements and the POPI Act. This opportunity is offered on a fixed-term contract basis with an anticipated start date of March 2026, and will contribute to strengthening data quality and health information systems at facility and district levels.
IHPS is a current Global Fund (GF) Subrecipient under the National Department of Health (NDoH), responsible for implementing the Tuberculosis (TB) Programme in the Johannesburg Health District in Gauteng Province, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District in the North West Province, and Frances Baard District in the Northern Cape from October 2025 to March 2028. The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is a South African non-profit company (NPC) established in 2010 following the PEPFAR CDC Track 1 transition of the ICAP, Columbia University Multi-country AIDS Program (MCAP) in South Africa. IHPS operates with a mission to strengthen health and development systems through program implementation and partnerships, and a vision to ensure optimal and sustainable health and development outcomes.
Overall Responsibility
The Data Capturer will be responsible for capturing, verifying, and reporting data at supported health facilities and community level, with a specific focus on TB programme data. The role will ensure data accuracy, timely reporting, and identification of linkage referrals for patient tracking and tracing. The Data Capturer will be facility-based and will work closely with facility staff and the IHPS Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
Key Performance Areas
- Capture, record, and report on all data collected from TB screening in communities and facilities.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Collect and verify data monthly and quarterly to ensure data quality and conduct data clean-up as required.
- Provide system-generated data and compile reports on programme successes and challenges for facilities and district teams.
- Perform filing, administrative tasks, and ad-hoc duties as required.
- Participate in daily programme activity planning and preparation.
- Conduct social mobilization activities for demand creation.
- Capture programme data on relevant monitoring and reporting systems including DHIS, Tier.Net, and any other health information systems introduced at facility or community level.
- Perform general administrative duties including filing and printing reports upon request.
- Provide technical guidance to users on computer and information systems.
- Ensure timely submission of accurate reports.
- Manage programme data in compliance with the POPI Act.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- NQF Level 6 or equivalent qualification in data management, statistics, health, public health, social sciences, information technology, or related field will be an advantage.
Technical Skills and Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience in data capturing and reporting.
- Matric Mathematics will be an added advantage.
- Experience in TB and HIV data recording and reporting.
Knowledge and Competencies
- Knowledge of capturing data in health M&E systems such as Tier.Net and/or DHIS will be advantageous.
- Experience with NDoH information systems including DHIS, Tier.Net, EDRWEB, PREHIMS, or PHCIS will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Strong computer and keyboarding skills with high accuracy and speed.
