Minimum Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following requirements before submitting an application:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be able to provide documentary proof of citizenship during the interview process.
- Be proficient in English and at least one other official South African language.
- Possess a Grade 10, Standard 8 or NCV Level 2 qualification recognised at NQF Level 2 by SAQA.

- Not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
- Be willing to complete firearm competency training.

Key Responsibilities

- Performing security duties at allocated SAPS premises.
- Controlling access to government buildings.
- Verifying the identity of employees, visitors and contractors before allowing entry.
- Issuing visitor access cards and collecting them upon departure.
- Maintaining accurate visitor registers.
- Conducting regular patrols of buildings and surrounding premises.
- Monitoring gates, entrances and exits.
- Guarding government vehicles, workshops and equipment.
- Monitoring alarms and investigating suspicious activities.
- Recording incidents and reporting security breaches.

These assessments may include a practical exercise to evaluate technical knowledge and job-related skills, as well as an integrity assessment to determine ethical conduct and suitability for employment within the South African Police Service.
For certain identified posts, additional vetting will be conducted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007, and the Children’s Act, 2005. Applicants whose names appear on the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register will not be considered for appointment.
Candidates are expected to disclose whether they are respondents in an interim or final protection order issued under the Domestic Violence Act or the Protection from Harassment Act. Such information may be taken into account during the recruitment process.
In accordance with the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, all successful candidates appointed to the South African Police Service are required to provide a buccal (inside cheek) sample for the purpose of creating a forensic DNA profile. The DNA profile will be stored on the Elimination Index of the National Forensic DNA Database.
Appointments will be made in accordance with the Public Service Act, 1994. Individuals who previously accepted a severance package, early retirement or medical retirement from the Public Service are not eligible for appointment. Persons with previous criminal convictions are also excluded from the recruitment process.
