Security Officer

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must be in possession of a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Standard 7).
  • Appropriate experience as a Security Officer within a healthcare environment or similar institutional setting is required.
  • Registration with the Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) as a Grade C Security Officer is mandatory.
  • Candidates must also hold a valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.

Applicants must be computer literate and willing to work night shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays as required by operational needs. Candidates must be registered as a Security Officer Grade B or higher with the Security Board in terms of the Security Industry Regulatory Authority Act (Act 56 of 2001).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of effective preventative security measures to maintain a safe and secure hospital environment. Duties include monitoring and controlling access and exit points throughout the establishment, ensuring proper management of keys and parking areas, and maintaining compliance with internal security protocols.

The role further includes conducting incident investigations, compiling detailed incident reports, and supporting supervisors in monitoring compliance by outsourced security service providers. Continuous observation and proactive security monitoring are essential to prevent incidents affecting patients, visitors, personnel, and property.

Security Officer

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Standard 7).

  • Appropriate security-related experience is required.

Candidates must be willing to work shifts and remain available on a 24-hour basis as operational requirements demand. The position requires individuals capable of working under pressure and managing irregular working hours. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications is essential.

Competencies and Skills

Suitable candidates must demonstrate good communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities. Knowledge of security regulations, departmental procedures, and safety compliance standards is required. Applicants must show diligence, responsibility, and the ability to maintain professional conduct while carrying out security operations in a high-demand hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting hospital buildings, key points, patients, visitors, staff members, and surrounding premises. Duties include conducting patrols of fenced areas and facilities, ensuring effective access and exit control to prevent unauthorized entry or removal of persons, vehicles, equipment, or dangerous objects, and monitoring surveillance camera systems and fire alarm systems.

The role further involves identifying suspicious activities, preventing theft and unlawful entry, and safeguarding hospital departments and entrances. The Security Officer will also ensure the effective use of security equipment and provide support to supervisors in maintaining service delivery standards. Regular inspections must be conducted to ensure compliance with contractual and operational security requirements.
